    Bicycle touring

    Shalom!

My wife and I are planning our first visit to Israel in mid October for 6 weeks. We want to travel around as much of the country as we can on bicycles and we have faced a few questions:

Does anyone know of any good bike shops in Tel Aviv (our port of entry)? Is it safe to cycle in the West Bank? Also, what sort of accomodation can we expect in the Negev?

Is there an English website with information on camping sites around Israel?

Lastly, we have heard of Bedouin-style camel trips. Does anyone know of  a good place/organisation who does this?

    Many thanks for your help!

    Re: Bicycle touring

    Dear Bicycle couple J ,

Firstly I wish you a great time in Israel. October is a great time to visit here , the temperature is getting down.
All the info I found about bicycles was in Hebrew- although there are many riders in Israel and this sport is becoming very popular but still there are no websites in English .
As bike rider, for my opinion it's not that safe to ride in the cities at all and in the roads between cities. We are not that developed in Israel and I'm sure that in few years it will be different.
I can recommend to hire bikes around the sea of galili, to hire bike in the mountains around Jerusalem but not a road bikes- it's too dangerous!!! I found these page in the internet with many stores numbers, I know it's in Hebrew but you can phone and ask for a specific info-

In the Negev you can either sleep in a Zimmer or in a nice and simple room in one of the youth hostels sites that will provide you a B&B and a nice hot shower. - http://www.iyha.org.il/eng/ In the Negev you can either stay in 2 Bedouin places such as: http://www.kfarhanokdim.co.il/english/about.htm - Kfar Anokdin or: http://www.genesisland.co.il/index.html - Genesis Landboth are great and very spiritual!
